Smart Cart
Description
Design an app for an IoT shopping cart! Smart Cart leverages your smartphone to connect to the shopping cart, eliminating the need for the built-in tablet appearing in the inspired products, Dash Carts, and Caper Carts. As users navigate the store, the cart uses AI technology to scan the items placed inside it. The app then automatically adds the scanned items to the virtual bill, simplifying the checkout process. Additionally, the app includes a shopping list feature where users can add desired items in advance. While shopping, they can filter their list by aisle to streamline the shopping process and save time.
Objective
Design an Internet of Things (IoT) system. Choose an everyday object and reimagine it as an IoT-enabled device that enhances convenience, efficiency, or quality of life for an individual. Consider how connectivity, automation, data collection, and smart features can improve the user experience.
Process
Background Research
Phase one focused on background research to better understand existing shopping cart and grocery apps. This included a competitor analysis, brand reviews, and market research to identify common patterns, strengths, and gaps within current designs. User personas were also created to better define the target audience and guide design decisions throughout the project.
App Design
Initial sketches were created to explore layout, navigation, and overall user flow in phase 2. These concepts were then translated into Figma, where the designs progressed through lo-fi, mid-fi, and hi-fi wireframes
Prototyping
The final phase of the process focused on prototyping and interaction design. High-fidelity screens were connected in Figma to create an interactive prototype that simulates the full user experience. This step helped test navigation, transitions, and overall usability.
Background Research
Final Design
The final design includes the Smart Cart app having features such as the home screen, shopping list, your cart, checkout, and confirmation.
